Investigation of Streptococcus suis strains isolated from different animal species other than pigs in the context of a previously published S. suis dataset

A collection of whole genome sequences of Streptococcus suis isolates sampled from different animal species (most of them diseased) in Germany between 2004 and 2024 was sequenced on the Illumina MiSeq platform. The strains were analysed regarding phylogenetic clustering, presence of virulence and antimicrobial resistance genes as well as possible mobile genetic elements. Finally, we identified multiple host jump events to different bird species.
