The Kenya Smallholder Crop Type Dataset was co-developed by the Radiant Earth Foundation and Plant Village to support crop type classification research in smallholder agricultural regions. This dataset includes boundary and crop type label information for over 3,000 agricultural plots, which are co-registered with Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. The dataset covers seven crop categories, consisting of three monoculture crop types and four mixed-crop types. Data was collected during an atypical growing season in western Kenya in 2019, which was affected by severe weather conditions. The primary applications of this dataset center on enhancing the accuracy of crop type maps for food security, particularly in sub-Saharan African regions that face elevated food security risks.
