Residence permits, publication of 20 June 2022

The first residence permits correspond to the titles held by adult foreigners following a first application for residence, so they do not take into account renewals of titles, even when they change in nature (for example, an alien entered on the “student” ground who would later be “employee” will not be counted a second time as the first title). The reference date chosen is the date of validity of the residence permit.

The data for 2020 are now final. For 2021, the data are provisional: given the time-limits between the submission of an application and the issuance of the permit, some of the documents issued within the year are not yet recorded in the national management base for residence permits. They will be counted at a later stage, when final data are published in January 2023 (see the bulk of immigration Nos. 2022-76 on successive revisions)

Since the implementation of Brexit, the UK has been a third-country national (TCN). They are obliged to hold a residence permit to stay in France since 1 October 2021. They are presented in isolation in the tables below, so as to have homogeneous series over time.
