The purpose of this project is to study the routes of transmission that avian influenza viruses use to cause cross-species infections in Bangladeshi Live Bird Markets (LBM). Understanding those routes would enable us to advise proper response strategies that prevent virus spill over from wild birds to poultry and vice versa and reduce the spill over risk at the poultry-human interface. This study also aims to provide characterized viruses (wild type and reassortants) suitable for possible use in human vaccine development via LBM surveillance in Bangladesh.
