Epitope-specific CD8+ CTL were not detected in any of six cultures of PBMC taken 76 weeks after termination of HCV infection and stimulated in vitro for 2 weeks with epitope. The authors suggest that the specificity is absent in peripheral blood or present at a low frequency.
