Florida Spatial Springs Samples 16S

Florida's first magnitude springs are feed by the Floridan Aquifer, and discharge upwards of 65 million gallons of water each day. In this study, we surveyed five first magnitude springs across the northern half of the state of Florida. For each spring, we sequenced 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene amplicons and viral metagenomes (viromes). This study provides the first description of the microbial and viral communities of Florida's first magnitude springs, as well as a first glimpse into the communities that inhabit the Floridan aquifer.
