资源简介:
Data file supports the publication “Responses of the mean thermosphere circulation, O/N2 ratio and Ne to solar and magnetospheric forcing from above and tidal forcing from below” by J. Forbes. X. Zhang, A. Maute, C. Cullens, JGR Space Physics, doi10.1029/2024JA032449.
The data set consists of zonal & diurnal mean results from three Thermosphere-Ionosphere-Electrodynamics General Circulation Model (TIEGCM) simulations for the NASA Ionospheric Connection (ICON) Explorer Mission. The TIEGCM model for ICON is described in the associated publication as well as in Maute et al. (2017, 2023) and references therein.
The three simulations are:
1. TIEGCM- Tides & varying SM: TIEGCM with tidal forcing at the lower boundary defined by Hough Mode extension (HME) method is data product 4.3 V1. The tidal HME lower boundary used is data product 4.1 version 2. This simulation used realistic solar and magnetospheric (SM) forcing as described by daily and 81-day average F10.7 index, and solar wind parameters (IMF Bz & By, solar wind density and speed).
2. TIEGCM – no Tides & varying SM: TIEGCM with varying SM forcing as for “TIEGCM- Tides & varying SM” case but without any tidal forcing at the model lower boundary.
3. TIEGCM – Tides & constant SM: TIEGCM simulation with tidal forcing as in “TIEGCM- Tides & varying SM” case but with constant solar and magnetospheric (SM) forcing (daily & 81-day average F10.7 = 71 sfu, IMF By=0nT, IMF Bz=1nT, hemispheric power=12 GW, vsw=400km/s densw=4/cm3).
The data is stored in an IDL sav file and described below.
The data file contains the following 2021 zonal and diurnal mean variables
Un zonal wind [m/s]
Vn meridional wind [m/s]
Wn vertical wind [m/s]
Tn neutral temperature [K]
Ne electron density [1/cm3]
O atomic oxygen density [g/cm3]
N2 molecular nitrogen [g/cm3]
O/N2 ratio [-]
F10.7 daily solar radio flux [sfu]
CP cross polar cap potential drop [kV]
The geographic latitude grid is from 85S to 85N, every 5 deg
The altitude grid is from 100-380 km every 5 km
The dimension of the array DZM_3d are (3, 8, 365, 35, 57) with
1st dimension the simulation cases (in order: TIEGCM- Tides & varying SM, TIEGCM – no Tides & varying SM, TIEGCM – Tides & constant SM)
2nd dimension: variable in order Un,Vn,Wn,Tn,Ne,O,N2,O/N2
3rd dimension: day of year 2021
4th dimension: latitude
5th dimension: altitude
The dimension of the array F10CP (2,365)
1st dimension: variable in order F10.7, CP
2nd dimension: day of year 2021
