Taxonomic identification of two poorly known lantern shark species based on mitochondrial DNA from wet-collection paratypes.

Mitochondrial genes from two lantern shark paratypes, Etmopterus litvinovi and Etmopterus pycnolepis, were captured using home-made baits and myBaits,respectively. DNA libraries were sequenced using Illumina techniques. Raw sequences were trimmed using Cutadapt v.1.16 and subsequently iteratively mapped with Mitobim to an appropriate reference sequence to reconstruct the consensus sequences.For E.litvinovi, 12s16s was reconstructed and aligned to a set of species from the E. spinax clade.For E. pycnolepis, NADH2 was reconstructed and aligned to a set of species from the E. lucifer clade.
