The study was research on estimation of the aboveground biomass and carbon storage of 34 year old Taiwan red pine ( Pinus taiwanensis ) plantation in Lishan area located in central Taiwan. According to the DBH distribution of stand, allometric equation established by stem analysis data of sample trees, and the value of convert coefficient built by the least squares method. Furthermore, elemental analyzer was used to analyze carbon content of the sample taken from trees harvested. The results show that estimated aboveground biomass were 178.33±22.13tonha-1 by DBH-biomass-volume equations and related convert coefficients, and 81.1% was in stem. Current aboveground biomass production were 1.9±0.3tonha-1yr-1 by volume increment formula. In terms of carbon concentration, there are different among different tissues. The mean values rank as:bark(49.4±1.3﹪)≒live branch(49.0±0.3﹪)≒leaf(48.5±0.5﹪)>dead branch(47.9±0.7﹪)>stem(45.9±0.7﹪),and carbon concentration of living tree is 46.9±0.1%. Meanwhile, carbon storage in aboveground of trees estimated were 81.6±9.9tonha-1 , and current carbon sequestration were 0.9±0.3 tonha-1yr-1, that means 3.3±1.0 co2 tonha-1yr-1 were sequestrated into the aboveground parts of Taiwan red pine plantation .
