Insects were collected from forests (both native and non-native) in New Zealand and the guts were extracted for DNA and RNA. 16S rRNA amplicons were made from the extracts at each of the different sites giving a total of 15 samples inlcuding different insects, DNA libraries, RNA libraries and different wood types. These were sequenced using a full plate 454 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing.
