VPRS 12695 Bank Debentures Receipt Book

sThe Master in Equity was responsible for the administration of the Supreme Court in Equity as well as holding various other positions. In 1883 under the Judicature Act the position of the Prothonotary of the Supreme Court (VA 433) ws established to relieve the Mater in Equity of the administration of matters not related to Equity. The Prothonotary later assumed responsibility for the Equity functions of the Mater in Equity.Debentures were lodged with or purchased by the Master in Equity in relation to equity suits before the Court (see VPRS 12694 Register of Debentures lodged or purchase in Equity Suits). These debentures were lodged with the Bank of Victoria for safekeeping. This series consists of the receipt book showing the details of debentures lodged with the Bank. Details given are the suit to which the debentures related, a description of the debentures and the signature of the bank official and the date of the lodgement.VPRS 12695/P1 was formerly registered as part of Unit 2 of VPRS 1597 Debentures Records.
