Effects of LPS induced septic shock on myocardial energy metabolites in the pig
Hypothesis: LPS induced septic shock cause energy deficiency in the myocardium
Data show that LPS administration to pigs caused a decrease of medium- and short-chain fatty acid oxidation without an effect on long-chain fatty acid oxidation in the myocardium . Glucose oxidation was also decreased.
Homeostasis of niacin, taurine, glutamate, glutamine, glutathione, hypoxanthine and thromboxane B2 was also affected in the septic myocardium.
We show expression levels of several genes involved in myocardium metabolism measured by real time PCR as well as myocardial levels of different metabolites including acylcarnitines and eicosanoid. NMR and LC/MS were used to measure metabolites.
Myocardial samples were obtained from control and LPS treated pigs.
