Data presented in the paper "Prey preferences of invasive (Hemigrapsus sanguineus, H. takanoi) and native (Carcinus maenas) intertidal crabs in the European Wadden Sea"

<i>Research objective: </i> In order assess the potential for resource overlap and subsequent competition between native and invasive crabs in the European Wadden Sea, we investigated the prey preferences of three invasive (<i>Hemigrapsus sanguineus</i>, <i>H. takanoi</i>) and native (<i>Carcinus maenas</i>) intertidal crab species. <i>Type of research, method &amp; collection of data:</i> In laboratory feeding experiments, the three crab species <i>H. sanguineus</i>, <i>H. takanoi</i> and <i>C. maenas</i> were offered four different prey species (blue mussels <i>Mytilus edulis</i>, sea lettuce <i>Ulva lactuca</i>, periwinkle snails <i>Littorina littorea</i> and amphipods <i>Gammarus locusta</i>). To test the crab’s dietary preferences, the four prey species were offered either separately or at the same time. All prey species as well as the crabs were collected on the island of Texel in the Dutch Wadden Sea.

研究目标：为评估欧洲瓦登海本土与入侵性潮间带蟹类间的资源重叠潜力及后续种间竞争风险，我们针对3种入侵蟹类（日本厚蟹Hemigrapsus sanguineus、绒螯厚蟹Hemigrapsus takanoi）与本土蟹类（普通滨蟹Carcinus maenas）的猎物偏好开展了相关调查。研究类型、实验方法与数据采集：本研究通过室内摄食实验，为上述3种蟹类提供4种受试猎物：紫贻贝Mytilus edulis、石莼Ulva lactuca、滨螺Littorina littorea以及钩虾Gammarus locusta。为探究蟹类的摄食偏好，我们设置了单猎物单独投喂与多猎物同时投喂两种实验范式。所有受试猎物与蟹类样本均采集自荷兰瓦登海的特塞尔岛Texel。
