Creative Economy: an urban development strategy in Belo Horizonte

Abstract This article intends to build a basis for reflection on Creative Economy as an urban development strategy, adopted in Brazil in recent decades. An overview will be drawn about the new sector through a bibliographic review, taking as an example the city of Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, where state and municipal governments have incorporated that segment through cultural public policies aimed at valuing the local plan. The proposals mapped in the capital city will allow us to think about the hypothesis of adopting Creative Economy as a model of economic growth that corroborates the logic of spatial transformation through the practice of local urban entrepreneurship – based on a rentier-financial dynamics –, stimulating new studies in the area.
