La mise en discours de la haine dans les Unes de Charlie Hebdo

Hate, a feeling considered the "evil of the century", is updated and gain strength in the discourse. Because of its focus on the 'other', the wide diffusion of hate speech has attracted the attention of institutions, governments and researchers from different disciplines. Studies on such speeches focus in particular on interactions on the web, but as has been shown, hate speech also invades traditional media. It is in the field of the press that our contribution aims to question the discursive manifestations of hate and the pathemic rhetorical strategies that participate in the construction of this discourse. We will examine more precisely the headlines and the statements in the front pages of 2023 of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, defined by its founders as a "bête et méchant". Our analysis will therefore highlight the political function of hate speech on the front pages of the weekly, hidden behind the art of satire.
