Campylobacter sp. MG1 Genome sequencing

Canada geese are known to transmit viral and bacterial diseases, thus posing a possible threat to human health. We isolated a unique Campylobacter canadensis-like strain, called MG1, from Canada geese fecal samples. We generated an annotated draft genome, which we then used to characterize the phylogenomic position, virulence gene content, and antimicrobial resistance gene profile of MG1. We also designed an MG1-unique qPCR assay for tracking Canada geese fecal contamination. MG1 is a unique, Canada goose-vectored Campylobacter isolate that is widely occurring and may harbor virulent potential.
