Germination frequencies obtained from a garden experiment. Two factors (treatments) manipulated: soil type and watering. Soil type (see legend below) Watering (yes or no) Germination (1 = yes; 0 = no) Frequency (number of seeds)
s0 = Substrate of the type of the reference station, taken around the mother plants, consisting of the typical thin stony and rocky soil s1 = Substrate like the previous one, but taken preferring where there were accumulations of above ground (usually from a few mm to two cm) s2 = Substrate rich in forest humus taken near the reference station under tree cover s3 = Substrate rich in yellowish orange brown clay (1/3) arranged on thin levels interspersed with each other, and with a component of gravel (1/3) and river sand (1/3) s4 = Cultivable substrate, deriving from a former cultivation, with the presence of clay and silt (about 1/3 + 1/3), fine sand (1/6) and slightly coarser sand (1/6)
