Effect of Parkin Overexpression on Gut Microbiota in Drosophila melanogaster

This study investigates how Parkin gene overexpression influences gut microbiome composition in Drosophila melanogaster. To examine age- and genotype-related microbial changes, gut samples were collected from both young and aged flies overexpressing Parkin, along with age-matched wild-type controls. Microbial DNA was extracted from dissected gut tissues and analyzed using whole-genome shotgun (WGS) metagenomic sequencing. This approach was used to explore microbial diversity, taxonomic composition, and functional potential. The goal was to determine whether Parkin overexpression leads to specific microbiome shifts that may contribute to increased lifespan and altered immune responses. This dataset supports findings presented in a manuscript currently under peer review.
