Suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) library was performed with the PCR-Select DNA Subtraction Kit (Takara Bio USA) following the manufacture's protocol. mRNA from kidney of Flavobacterium psychrophilum-injected (virulent GMA0330 or avirulent NCIMB 1947 strains in ayu) and phosphate buffered saline (PBS)-injected fish was used to make tester or driver cDNAs, respectively. Two SSH libraries were performed: the first SSH cDNA library (GP library) was constructed using cDNA derived from virulent GMA0330-injection fish as the tester and cDNA derived from PBS-injected fish as the driver, the second SSH cDNA library (GN library) was constructed using cDNA derived from virulent GMA0330-injection fish as the tester and cDNA derived from avirulent NCIMB 1947-injection fish as the driver.
