The correspondence represented by these registers appears to have been destroyed. In the earlier volumes, however, the summaries of the letters received are in many cases quite full and minutes and draft replies are usually included. After 1 January 1909, information is less detailed. Letters (which in the earlier volumes seem to come solely from the head office of the Public Charities Sub-Department) were entered, at irregular intervals, identified by their out-letter number. Even after an annual single system was introduced peculiarities abound, and copies of letters sent are sometimes registered as though they were letters received. (7/5340-45). 6 vols.
