Digital Archive from an Archaeological Excavation at Silver Street, Calne, Wiltshire, December 2017

This collection consists of site images (including images of cremated human remains), site records, reports, and GIS data from an archaeological excavation at Silver Street, Calne, Wiltshire. The works were conducted by Rubicon Heritage Services Ltd in December 2017. Five areas were excavated, of which two were devoid of any archaeological features. The remaining areas produced evidence of four pits, four linear features, a single possible post-hole and the remains of a truncated cremation. Prehistoric occupation is attested by the cremation which was of Bronze Age date, the few Roman wares recovered were either from the overburden or residual, the medieval pits and linear features were probably associated with farming practices and the post-medieval occupation appears to be confined to agriculture and land drainage.
