Sex chromosome evolution in blattodean insects

Insects as a whole demonstrate variability in sex determination and include lineages with male and female heterogamety; however, stability of sex chromosomes and frequency of transitions among sex-determining systems across insect super-radiation are largely unknown. To test stability of sex chromosomes across and within insect lineages, we analyzed the transcriptome of the six-spotted cockroach (Eublaberus distanti) and its interspecific hybrid with the Pantanal cockroach (Eublaberus serranus) exhibiting XX/X0 sex chromosomes, and we tested the homology of sex chromosomes in species across blattodean insect phylogenetic spectrum by qPCR.
