Editor's Comment:
Letters of Lieutenant Charles Nye, Northamptonshire Regiment, died on 16th August 1916, aged 25. The son of Charles Edward and M. E. Nye, of "Cranford," Cranmore Lane, Aldershot, he is buried in Cerisy-Gailly French National Cemetery. He originally joined up as a private (service no. 9594) in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, and was officially attached to the 8th (Service) Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment, but seems to have served in the 3rd and 1st Battalions before his death. He reference to a battalion of the Sussex Regiment being in his Brigade in his letter of 27th July would seem to imply that he was serving with the 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment (part of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division) when he died.
