Code and Data for: Cursed by Profits?

Instructions and descriptions of the code and data used in Cursed by Profits? La Violencia: data_ideology_rifles.dta is the dataset used by Lopez-Uribe and Sanchez (2024). We use their data on forced displacements. PANEL_CONFLICTO_Y_VIOLENCIA2.xlsx is a subset of the dataset from Fernandez (2012). This data is obtained from https://datoscede.uniandes.edu.co/catalogo-de-datos/. Violence1_ideology_rifles.jl estimates the BMM models with and without instrumental variables. Linear_violence1.jl estimates the linear aproximation. El Desmadre: base_coca_final.xlsx contains the data on coca and coffee profitability as described in the main text. PANEL_CARACTERISTICAS_GENERALES.xlsx contains the data on distance to market, distance to capital, and regions. Clima.xlsx contains the precipitation and altitude data. Violence2_levels.jl estimates the BMM models with and without instrumental variables. Additional (Original) Data: Calculos-ganancias.xlsx contains the profitability data reported in Figure 2 in the main text.
