Deaths in the US Military

This Excel file contains information on every death (conflict and non-conflict) in the US Military from January 1, 1990 to November 11, 2010. It was obtained through Freedom of Information Act request 10-F-1140. Tabs on the sheet include the subsets of deaths that were part of Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom (i.e. the war in Afghanistan). Unfortunately I have no information on how exactly this classification was made. The Department of Defense has made deaths from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan publicly available on their website. In November 2010, this information was at http://siadapp.dmdc.osd.mil/personnel/CASUALTY/castop.htm, but in 2014 was available at https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/dcas/pages/main.xhtml. Information on Iraq conflict death is also available from the Associated Press: http://nrcdata.ap.org/casualties/default.aspx.
