Dairy Calf Handling and Welfare Practices on Brazilian Farms: A Questionnaire Dataset

This dataset contains questionnaire-based data on handling, nutrition, health, behavior, and animal welfare practices applied to female and male dairy calves during the milk-feeding phase. Data are organized in CSV and/or Excel forma.

Data were collected from 205 dairy farms located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, through face-to-face interviews with farm owners or managers. The dataset is organized into thematic sections, with each row representing one farm and each column representing a questionnaire variable. The original language of the responses (Portuguese) was maintained, with the variables identified in English.All farms were anonymized. These data support analyses of sex-based differences in calf management and identify gaps in welfare-related practices in dairy production systems.
