Narrative Inquiry into Media and Sexual Development

The purpose of this research was to explore the perceptions of content in media and experiences of college-aged students of various gender and sexual identities. This is a qualitative study, including semi-structured interviews with college students from one Texas university. Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed into written text documents for thematic analysis. The students (n = 9) were interviewed via in-person or Zoom video conferencing. The college students’ sexual identities include heterosexual, gay, bisexual, queer, sexually fluid, and lesbian (LGBTQ+). Gender identities participants could report identifying as include male, female, queer, and genderfluid.
