资源简介:
Replication package for Crawfurd, L. (2021), "Contact and Commitment to Development: Evidence from Quasi-Random Missionary Assignments," Kyklos, 74(2): 175-195. doi:10.1111/kykl.12255.
The paper uses the quasi-random assignment of Latter-day Saints missionaries to two-year missions in different world regions to estimate the effect of travel to a developing country on attitudes to global development. N=1,499 returned missionaries surveyed via Facebook alumni groups. Africa-assigned missionaries report greater interest in global development and greater charitable behaviour, but stronger opposition to immigration from poor countries.
Contents (550 KB zip): PII-scrubbed survey CSV (5 emails in free-text comments redacted), missions-to-region crosswalk, pinned World Bank GDP per capita snapshot (2017), cleaned Mormon Survey (Cleaned).dta, two Stata do-files (cleaning, analysis), master script, README, and the survey instrument PDF.
End-to-end execution reproduces N=1,230 (interest regression) and N=1,090 (volunteer regression) exactly, and reproduces all coefficients in Tables 3 and 4 to 5 decimal places against the originally deposited .dta.
Rebuild date 2026-04-25. See Reviews/2026-04-25_referee2_addendum.md in the parent folder for full audit details, including the PII-scrub verification.
