Whole genome sequencing of Kwan, a male Silverback gorilla

In this work we integrate cytogenetics, complete BAC sequencing, NGS genome sequencing paired ends and arrayCGH methods to explore the structural variations of the gorilla genome and compare to other hominids in order to understand rates, mechanisms and events in the critical outgroup to human and chimp. To this end, we sequenced the whole genome of a male Silverback gorilla. We explored the full-spectrum of variation ranging from cytogenetic-resolved to smaller retroposons new insertion events.
