About the data and conditions for use:
Thanks for your interest in the dataset, "Ariaal Milk FOLR1 Data."
About the data
The data and biological specimens (human milk and blood) were originally collected by Masako Fujita (the Author) among breastfeeding women in Ariaal communities of northern Kenya, assisted by Ariaal men and women research staff, under approvals by the institutional review boards of the University of Washington and Kenya Medical Research Institute as well as permissions from the Marsabit District Office and the community Chiefs. The field data/specimen collection was supervised by Dr. Bettina Shell-Duncan and Dr. Yeri Kombe, and facilitated by the Centre for Public Health Research of KEMRI. The specimens went under embargo by Kenyan Ministry of Health, and subsequently subsequently shippted to the United States.
Blood serum C-reactive protein concentration data were generated at the University of Washington Biodemography Lab via blood serum assays in 2008 supervised by Eleanor Brindle and Kathleen O'Connor. Milk/blood specimens were subsequently made available for further analyses at Michigan State University via the Material Transfer Agreement with the Biodemography Laboratory of the University of Washington. Milk folate receptor-α, milk total protein, and blood serum homocysteine concentration data were then generated through assays at the Michigan State University Biomarker Laboratory for Anthropological Research between 2016 and 2017.
Additional information on the data context can be found in a manuscript entitled, "Characterizing the extent human milk folate is buffered against maternal malnutrition and infection in drought-stricken northern Kenya."
