Cross-media environmental control in selected areas Reutte/Breitenwang

In this report, the Federal Environment Agency has for the first time surveyed and presented the environmental situation of a hard and refractory metal company across media. The focus was on emissions of dust into the air and heavy metals into all environmental media. At the Reutte/Breitenwang site, the metals tungsten and molybdenum are extracted. Together with other metals such as tantalum, niobium and chromium, it is used to produce raw material moulds and special tools. The air quality measurements of dust show no tendency to stress. There are numerous studies on molybdenum in various environmental media, and preliminary results are available for tungsten. The Federal Environment Agency carried out a monitoring of the deposition of heavy metals with mosses in 1996, 2001 and 2007. The measured concentrations show strongly increased values.
