Taxonomic and functional specialization of the rumen microbiome of Japanese Black cattle revealed by next-generation sequencing

Japanese Black (JB) is the predominant beef breed in Japan. The rumen microbiome is essential for the growth of host ruminant; however, few studies have reported on the rumen microbiome of JB. Therefore, we identified the taxonomical and functional characteristics of the JB rumen microbiome.
