Wildfire Risk Assessment and Response Planning for the Croatian Islands in the Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva Regions (2025-06-03)

The Republic of Croatia, as part of the Mediterranean region, experiences a high risk of forest fires, particularly in coastal areas and islands. These fires pose a significant threat to human life, infrastructure, and the environment, often resulting in high direct and indirect damage and placing substantial pressure on firefighting capabilities. The Civil Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of Croatia requested the activation on behalf of the Croatian Firefighting Association to assess fire risk in the Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva regions. The activation covers fire risk analysis (hazard, exposure, vulnerability, risk) as well as a response, preparedness, and mitigation measure planning. The results aim to support the decision-making processes at local level to initiate targeted interventions.
