One of the three main functions of The Mayor’s Office of Performance and Innovation (OPI) is the Data Fellows program, started in 2019. Data Fellows are hired through the program and take on projects that focus on using data to improve services for Baltimore City residents. Fellows work on a variety of projects, from performance management to dashboards, process improvement, and automation of manual tasks. The following is a story about one project, the Mayor’s Action Plan Tracker, that Joale Jupiter, an OPI Data Fellow, worked on. My role as the Data Fellows Program Manager was to facilitate, project manage, and mentor throughout the project. Other members of OPI helped to support the development of the content of the Mayor’s Action Plan, contributing writing, editing, and leadership team facilitation support, while we were tasked with bringing the plan to life for the public.
