Wheat pangenome

In this study we build an improved reference for Chinese Spring and explore gene diversity across 18 wheat cultivars. We predict a pangenome size of 140 500 ± 102 genes, a core genome of 81 070 ± 1631 genes and an average of 128 656 genes in each cultivar. Functional annotation of the variable gene set suggests that it is enriched for genes that may be associated with important agronomic traits. In addition to variation in gene presence, more than 36 million intervarietal single nucleotide polymorphisms were identified across the pangenome.
本研究构建了优化后的中国春(Chinese Spring)参考基因组,并系统性解析了18个普通小麦栽培品种的基因多样性。本研究预测泛基因组(pangenome)总基因数为140500±102个,核心基因组(core genome)包含81070±1631个基因,各栽培品种的平均基因数为128656个。对可变基因集的功能注释结果显示,该基因集显著富集了可能与重要农艺性状相关的基因。除基因存在缺失变异外,本研究还在泛基因组范围内鉴定出超过3600万个品种间单核苷酸多态性(single nucleotide polymorphisms)。
