Tree Canopy Cover - 2022

<p>This data is the City’s second tree canopy assessment and first tree canopy reassessment. The data was created by Spatial Analysis Lab at the University of Vermont as a part of the Tree Canopy Assessment for Canada’s Capital Region, a collaborative project by the National Capital Commission, the City of Gatineau, and the City of Ottawa. The mapping of 2022 tree canopy cover can be compared to the 2017 baseline. This allows for urban forest growth and programs to be monitored, as well as provides necessary information to continue work under the City of Ottawa’s Urban Forest Management Plan.</p><p><strong>Citation:</strong> Spatial Analysis Lab UVM, City of Ottawa&nbsp;<br /><strong>Date Created: </strong>September 16, 2025<br /><strong>Update Frequency:</strong> As required. This is a final version as of right now. Data likely won’t be reviewed for accuracy until the next tree canopy cover assessment in 2027.<br /><strong>Last Reviewed: </strong>N/A<br /><strong>Accuracy, Completeness, and Known Issues: </strong>A manual quality control of this dataset was completed at a scale of 1:1,000 to remove large errors. Quality control also included a removal of all features with an area of less than 2m2 and an algorithm adjustment to address houses with sloped roofs.
