To perform a comprehensive characterization of Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) gastrointestinal microbiota, we investigated 10 Elephas maximus gut metagenomic datasets from different individuals. Samples were collected from Mengyang protected forest (22º10'~22º11' N, 100º50'~100º50' E) of Xishuangbanna National Natural Reserve, Yunnan Province of China.
