Ecology Lab 4 - Field Sample Training With Animals

The data was collected by group 4 which consisted of Shelly, Carmen, Navdip and Dorsah. This data was collected on a sunny afternoon with temperatures of about 20 degrees Celsius. The first 5 trails were in the woodlot and the next 5 in the grasslands. Once we arrived at the woodlot, a transect was extended 25 meters on the ground. A group member from group 4 walked along the 25 meter distance swinging a sweep net as close to the ground as possible. The sweep net was continuously swung for the entire 25 meters so that the organisms in the net would not be able to escape. Once the 25 meter end was reached the net was swung in a circle and closed off so that the organisms would be trapped and could be counted. Each type of insect, bug and fly was counted and recorded. This was repeated 4 more times in different areas of the woodlot and then 5 more times in different areas of the grasslands.
