BORROWING AND CONCEPTUAL ADAPTATION OF MEDICAL TERMS IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

This article examines the borrowing and adaptation of medical terms in English and Uzbek from a comparative perspective. It explores the main sources of medical terminology and the ways borrowed terms are integrated into the Uzbek language. The analysis is based on English and Uzbek medical dictionaries, terminology glossaries, and recent studies. The findings show that Greek and Latin remain the main sources of international medical vocabulary, while Arabic, Persian, Russian, and English have significantly influenced the development of Uzbek medical terminology. Borrowed terms are adapted to the phonological, morphological, and lexical features of Uzbek while preserving their scientific meaning. The study contributes to comparative terminology research and may support medical translation, bilingual lexicography, and terminology standartization.
