Gut microbiota in psoriasis patients

There is an increasing evidence of the key role that the gut microbiota plays on inflammatory diseases. In this study we identified differences in the fecal microbial composition of psoriasis patients compared to healthy individuals that allowed us to unravel the microbiota dysbiosis in this autoimmune disease. 16S rRNA gene sequencing and bioinformatic analyses were performed with the total DNA extracted from the faecal microbiota of nineteen psoriasis patients and twenty healthy individu-als from the same geographic location. Gut microbiota composition of psoriasis patients displayed lower diversity and different rela-tive abundance of certain bacterial taxa compared to healthy individuals.
