Multidrug resistant Escherichia coli from groundwater systems in the North West Province and its public health implications

This study aimed to determine the presence of Escherichia coli in groundwater in the North West Province. This is because E.coli is a water quality indicator in South Africa. The study also aimed to determine whether E.coli are resistant to an array of clinically used antibiotics. And lastly, to determine whether these Enterobacteriaceae harbour antibiotic-resistant and virulent genes.
