Site 47 data on maternal demographics, reproductive history, medical history, prenatal history, labor and delivery admission, repeated measures (dilation, effacement and station of first exam, year of vaginal exams, and number of exams per patient), hypertensive medications, type of C-section (elective or emergency), reason for C-section, indication for labor induction, method of induction, labor and delivery summary, antibiotics, trial of labor, postpartum complications, physician characteristics, hospital data, including highest level of neonatal care and standards for epidural anesthesia and oxytocin administration, newborn information, NICU outcomes, maternal ICD-9 codes for certain diagnoses/conditions, incidence of specific maternal and neonatal diagnoses/conditions, timing of delivery, and maternal and neonatal death information
Study Description
Collected detailed information from electronic medical records for 228,438 deliveries in 19 U.S. hospitals. Primary objectives were to explore the underlying causes of the high cesarean rate in the U.S. population, describe contemporary labor progression at the national level, and determine when is the more appropriate time to perform a cesarean delivery in women with labor protraction and arrest.
