Heavy metal concentration, target hazard risk and target risk of 5 species of Buriganga River fish, Dhaka, Bangladesh

Dataset contains heavy metal concentrations measured by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer of 9 elements in 7 samples of 5 fish species caught in the Buriganga River, Dhaka, Bangladesh during November, 2017. Target hazard quotients of each element in each sample is calculated. For lead (Pb) two benchmark dose values are used while for other elements the reference daily dose is used. Target risk or cancer risk is calculated for 4 compounds of 2 elements (2 compounds each). Hazard analysis was carried out using EPA guidelines for fish. Qualitative survey has been carried out using key informant interviews and focus group discussions to shed light on consumption pattern and behavior of consumers of polluted Buriganga River fish. Purpose of the study is to add to the literature of heavy metal concentrations of some previously tested and novel species of fish as well as illustrate the risk and attitudes of consumers of these fish.
