资源简介:
This collection comprises text documents and images from an archaeological evaluation carried out by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd. at Ivy House, Bull Lane, Peakirk, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, in January 2022. The approved trench plan provided in the Written Scheme of Investigation could not be realised as the building on site was still extant and occupied. Therefore, after consultation with the client, RPS Consulting Ltd, a single east-west aligned trench was excavated in the property's garden. The trench, with a short N-S aligned spur, measured 1.6 m in width and 20 m in length. The size and location of the trench made use of all the available space for trenching and is located across the footprint of the proposed new building. The evaluation has revealed evidence for possible Saxo-Norman activity in the form of a ditch. This could represent a simple field boundary ditch but the presence of an undated but possibly associated post hole could indicate more intensive activity. The presence of a medieval fragment of pottery in a later soakaway suggests activity of that period nearby. All other features date to the 19th century to modern period and are of low archaeological significance.
