Marine sediment samples

The dataset Marine Sediment Samples contains information on sediment samples with respect to the nature of the soil species and for some selected sampling sites also the surface sediment content of selected elements, inorganic compounds and organic environmental pollutants. The observations are made in connection with SGU's regular marine geological survey or in assignments where the client has allowed the publication of data.

SGU is responsible for exploring and mapping bottom conditions within the Swedish territorial sea and Swedish economic zone (EEZ). The information produced is used as a basis for, for example, planning and decision-making on the protection or use of the seabed, in the design of marine civil engineering works and environmental monitoring. It is also an important basis for biological inventories and the Swedish Armed Forces.
