资源简介:
The goal of the proposed observation plan is to determine the distance to a particularly interesting massive star forming region (MSFR) in the southern Galactic plane, using annual parallax of the 6.7GHz methanol maser. \r\n\r\nSeveral molecular line observations place the G269.45-1.47 complex at a kinematic distance of 1-2kpc - the Local arm. However, methanol maser emission has recently been detected at +56km/s corresponding to a kinematic distance of about 7kpc.\r\nRather than conclude that the difference in velocity is due to large peculiar or internal motions, we purpose that the emission belongs to an independent, more distant Galactic MSFR residing in the Perseus arm or a Galactic spur or branch. Thus, measuring the parallactic distance to this target may impact our view of the MilkyWay Galaxy. Measuring the source proper motion will also help studies of Galactic kinematics by use of measuring the Galactic constants, a practice heavily biased to northern directions. The LBA is the only facility capable of representing the southern sky in this effort.\r\n\r\nAs well as it's clear use in the study of Galactic structure and kinematics, this target would also provide valuable insight into the physical properties of massive star formation itself by means of combining distance with internal motions associated with the inner regions of the core, which is where proto-stellar disks are thought to reside.
