Lycianthes Transcriptom

We present four transcriptomes from non-model members of the pepper tribe, Capsiceae, to better understand the evolution of desirable traits in crop species. The data include cDNA sequences from Lycianthes asarafolia, Lycianthes biflora, Lycianthes saltensis, and Capsicum rhomboideum. The goals of this study were to use these sequences to establish a phylogenetic hypothesis for the relationships among Lycianthes and the pungent and non-pungent species in Capsicum. Determining these relationships is necessary for isolating the origin of pungency and other traits targeted in breeding programs, and the genes involved in this traits.
