Ecological role of plasmids isolated from an enriched microbiome of Siberian active layer permafrost

We want to investigate the role of plasmids in the adaption of microbial communities to changing environmental conditions in the Arctic. For the determination of the host range of the plasmids, we applied 16S amplicon sequencing of environmental samples and enrichment cultures. Whole-genome sequencing of the enrichment cultures is the basis for the assembly of plasmid sequences and their subsequent functional annotation.
