Individuals born very preterm (<32weeks) are at an increased risk of cognitive and academic difficulties. One area of cognition known to be particularly vulnerable in this population is working memory. As such, the overarching aim of this dissertation was to gain a more comprehensive understanding of working memory in young adults born very preterm. Specifically, it aimed to examine the potential cognitive mechanisms underpinning working memory difficulties vulnerabilities, as well as the impact on mathematical performance in adolescence and adulthood.
