Salinity causes devastating abiotic stresses in crop plants. As a highly salinity sensitive crop, lentil is a major crop in field fellow areas and a suitable model for salinity tolerance research. In this study, we compared the transcriptome changes between the salinity-tolerant (PDL-1) and salinity sensitive (L-4076) in response to salinity stress treatments (120mM NaCl concentration). Transcriptional regulation, signal transduction and secondary metabolism in two genotypes showed significant differences, all of which might be related to mechanisms underlying Salinity tolerance. The transcriptional profiles presented here provide a foundation for deciphering the mechanism underlying salinity tolerance. Based on our findings, we proposed several candidate genes that might be used to improve salinity tolerance in lentil.
